About HearMeWA

A free, 24/7 helpline created by the WA Attorney General’s Office, co-designed with the young people it serves.

Built by youth, for youth.

HearMeWA started with one young person’s idea—and grew into a statewide resource shaped by youth voices.

An Idea Takes Shape

Conner Mertens, a college student from Kennewick, spoke out about the youth mental health crisis in his community. He began working with local leaders on possible solutions, imagining a program where young people could reach out anonymously and get help.

State Backing Arrives

Thanks to Conner’s idea and continued advocacy, the Washington State Legislature provided funding to the Attorney General’s Office to create a program focused on youth safety and well-being.

HearMeWA Launches

Young people from across Washington helped design and launch HearMeWA, a free, 24/7 helpline for teens and young adults. It’s youth-centered, trauma-informed, and grounded in antiracist values. Co-created with youth every step of the way.

Sandy Hook Promise Crisis Center

The Sandy Hook Promise National Crisis Center receives and responds to every HearMeWA call and online report. It’s the only crisis center dedicated solely to youth-centered, anonymous reporting.

Trained counselors work with local and community programs to connect young people with help, day and night, 365 days a year.
